What is Work Order Checker?

Work Order Checker (also known as Universal WO Checker) is a lightweight Windows desktop
application for anyone who lives in work‑order spreadsheets – fabrication shops, machine shops, panel
builders, and OEMs.

Instead of scrolling through hundreds of rows in Excel, you pick the columns that matter, define the strings
you care about, and build a few simple rules. The app creates filtered grids and summary statistics for you,
then exports everything into a clean Excel workbook you can send to the shop floor.

Designed for manufacturing teams

  • Manufacturing and production engineers checking work orders before release
  • Planners who need counts by part family, material, or thickness
  • Estimators and project engineers reviewing customer work‑order spreadsheets
  • Job‑shop owners that receive messy CSV / Excel files from clients

The current version is completely free to download and use. A future Pro upgrade may add
advanced template features for heavy users.

Key benefits

Stop scrolling through huge spreadsheets

Define rules like “Part Number contains SHF” or “Description contains Shelf panel”.
Each rule gets its own filtered grid so you see exactly the rows that match.

See statistics instantly

Open the Statistics window to see how many rows each rule found. Quickly sanity‑check that all panel,
bracket, or rail families are present before releasing a job.

Export clean Excel results

Export a single workbook that contains an All Rows sheet, one sheet per search rule, and a
statistics sheet with row counts. The app types numbers, dates, and percentages correctly so Excel formulas
and sorting work as expected.

How Work Order Checker works

  1. Open your work‑order file.
Click Browse… and choose an .xlsx, .csv, .tsv, or
.txt file. The app reads the header row automatically and detects delimiters in CSV/TSV
    files.
  2. Choose the columns you care about.
Add headers such as Part Number, Description, Material, or
Routing Operation to the “Columns to show” list and reorder them to match how your
    team reads work orders.
  3. Define strings and search rules.
Add strings (for example SHF, 3.0T, Shelf panel) and build simple
“Column contains String” rules from them. Each rule appears as its own filtered grid.
  4. Review, check statistics, and export.
Scroll through the filtered grids, open the Statistics window to confirm row counts, then click
Export to generate a clean Excel workbook.

Supported file types & limits

  • Excel: .xlsx work‑order exports
  • Text: .csv, .tsv, .txt (delimiters auto‑detected)
  • Handles large files with hundreds or thousands of rows; loading progress is shown in the status area.

Work Order Checker never modifies your original file. It only reads the data and writes a separate exported
workbook when you choose to save results.

Reuse your setup with layout templates

Many ERP and MRP systems export work orders in exactly the same format every time. Layout templates let you
capture your preferred columns, strings, and search rules for that format once and reuse them on every new
file.

  • Save your current columns, strings, and rules as a named template
  • Load the template next time you receive a similar work order
  • Export and import templates as simple JSON files to share setups inside your team

Roadmap

The current version of Work Order Checker is free and includes template support for typical use. A Pro
edition, planned for the future, will focus on heavier usage: additional template management options and
quality‑of‑life features for high‑volume shops.

You can safely adopt the tool today knowing the core workflow of loading files, defining rules, and exporting
results will stay the same.

Frequently asked questions

Is Work Order Checker really free?
Yes. The current Microsoft Store version is free to download and use on Windows, with no subscription or time
limit.
Does my data leave my computer?
No. Work Order Checker runs locally as a desktop application. Your spreadsheets, settings, and templates are
stored under your user profile and are never uploaded or sent to a server.
Can it damage or overwrite my original work‑order file?
No. The app opens work‑order files in read‑only mode. When you export results, it writes a separate Excel
workbook in the location you choose.
What are the system requirements?
Work Order Checker is distributed through the Microsoft Store as a packaged app and runs on Windows 10 and
Windows 11. The required .NET runtime is bundled with the installer, so you don’t need to install anything
extra.
